Honeybush
Honeybush is another of the atypical teas. The honeybush, as it is usually called, needs very specific conditions for its growth. And these are found exclusively around South Africa's Western Cape. The unique effects and pleasantly honey-like taste of this special plant were discovered by the local bushmen. All modern attempts to relocate the plantations to another continent or just a few dozen kilometres away have failed. Honeybush does it best with rich soil, unlimited water supply and unpolluted air.
Hot or iced - always honey-like
Honeybush's natural sweetness can be used to great effect in a variety of beverages. That is true for young children, who do not need to sweeten their tea, as well as for adults. Throw in some fresh or compote fruit, or add a splash of cognac. You will be holding the strongest weapon in your hands. It will help you step out of your comfort zone and maybe make new friends. Thanks to its pleasant and unusual smell, a cup or glass of Honeybush will attract the attention of the whole street.
Brew Honeybush for the winter doldrums:
If you need the infusion for a whole regiment, make it in a teapot and add one additional teaspoon. Steep for 3-5 minutes, then strain.
Refresh the Honeybush for pool loafers:
Fill a tall glass 2/3 of the way with ice cubes and pour the warm drink over them. Add flavour to your liking.
