Ingredients
77 % Honeybush, Sunflower, Rose petals, Candied papaya (papaya, sugar), Raspberries, Jasmine flower, AromaBrew & Taste
Honeybush has many great qualities besides its excellent taste and enticing aroma. Even its color, when brewed with hot water, is intriguing. The beautiful deep orange liquid is a tempting treat. When we have a sip, a honeyed sweetness with no bitterness spreads over the palate. The aroma is full, the trace of honeybush lingers for a long time.
Blends containing honeybush are great for making iced teas. Just pour the hot drink over ice cubes and you get an incredibly tasty iced tea that doesn't need to be sweetened. It's loved by Japanese children, for example, who drink it during school days.
Origins
With honeybush, it's har to distinguish whether it's a tea or an herbal drink. It's not harvested from Chinese tea trees like the classic green, black or white tea, but from the so-called honeybush (Cyclopia intermedia). It grows in a very limited area of southern Africa, in the Eastern and Southern Cape, and belongs to the bean family, thus falling into the same botanical category as rooibos. The honeybush still grows mostly in the wild and is extremely sensitive to industrial pollution, so attempts to grow it on plantations have not been very successful. On the other hand, its ability to react to foreign chemicals ensures that we receive it in the absolute highest quality and 100% natural origin. Interestingly, the 150cm shrubs enjoy regular fires to rejuvenate them and help the seeds germinate. Harvesting takes place during the flowering season, when a strong honey scent wafts around the rich yellow canopy. Gatherers climb to the bushes into inaccessible terrain, often using ropes. Whole bushes with long branches and needle-like leaves are cut off about 30cm above the ground, put into large baskets and lowered to ready tractors with trailers. Then, the material is transported to processing farms where it is chopped into small pieces and fermented. Fermentation takes place either in large piles covered with tarpaulins or in preheated ovens. After fermentation, honeybush is mahogany in color and full of flavor and aroma. This is followed by sorting, packaging and export. For fruits and herbs we went to proven suppliers.
This is because the ingredients for our teas must meet the highest standards of quality, as well as appearance, taste and aroma. That's why we buy them in the EU from certified partners.
To balance the flavors and scents, we added a few drops of natural aroma to Honeybush Superstar. You don't have to worry about it being a chemical or harmful to the body. Quite the opposite! Natural flavoring has no negative effects on health, does not acidify the body nor cause heartburn.
