Jasmine tea
"I have not been home in the Eastern Mountains for many years... How many times has the jasmine bloomed in the ''White Mine'' without me?" Perhaps the meaning and homeland of jasmine cannot be better expressed than by the poet Li Po (source: Songs of Ancient China, Jiří Franěk). The scent of snow-white jasmine flowers, intoxicating, sweet and exotic, belongs to China as much as green tea. Botanists place jasmine in the olive family and distinguish several species. The fast-growing liana requires a habitat with full sun. Besides China, it is also found in southern Europe, India, Egypt, Algeria and Italy.
The unique fragrance of jasmine is well absorbed by the tea leaves. The plants are either planted directly into tea gardens or the undeveloped buds are mixed with tea (allowed to bloom) and sorted. Jasmine's aromatherapeutic abilities are associated with stimulating the senses and improving mood. It is recognised as an aphrodisiac too. Jasmine flowers are used to make fragrance oils, creams and perfumes. Jasmine decoction relieves stress, strengthens the nervous system, relieves tension and wards off headaches, and stomach or gynaecological problems.
