Ingredients
100 % Black tea BIO DARJEELING FTGFOP I FIRST FLUSHBrew & Taste
Although the tea is classified as black, its infusion is light in color, and the taste is milky and aromatic. The taste is sweet and flowery with a long and pleasant aftertaste. The astringency of this tea makes it very refreshing, both in hot and iced versions.
Origins
It is not for nothing that the teas of Darjeeling (India) are called the "champagne of teas". They are so unique that you can easily recognize them. They are also, like real champagne, often imitated, but true Darjeeling has a few unique features. It is made from high tea trees grown in high altitudes of the Darjeeling region (north-east India), is harvested and processed by hand, is not 100% fermented, and bears the trademark image of a woman holding a twig of a tea tree.
Darjeeling is affectionately known as the 'Queen of the Hills'. It lies among the rocky mountains, beneath the permanently snow-capped Himalayas. Thanks to the high altitude, cool and foggy climate and frequent rainfall, the tea grown in local tea gardens is truly unique. It is only harvested by hand, in the case of organic Darjeeling FTGFOP First Flush 'Aktionstee' in early spring, from late February to late April. It takes about 2,000 tea leaves to produce 100g of Darjeeling. Harvesting is the task of skilled women and girls who go to the tea plantations early in the morning. The tea is quickly transported for processing, allowed to wilt and then fermented. The oxidation of the enzymes is strictly monitored, its percentage determines the final flavor and aroma of the tea.
Darjeeling is fermented less than conventional black teas. Finally, the tea is dried using hot air technology, always with great care. Overheated tea has a caramel or roasted taste, and tea specialists certainly don't want that.
The abbreviation FTGFOP1 (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe 1) says it is part of production processed with the utmost care and caution. It has a uniform leaf and a high proportion of buds.
