Origins
This pure black tea was brought to us from Singtom Plantation, located in Darjeeling, which is believed to be the oldest local tea garden. Established in 1852, it now specializes in eco-friendly tea production and is also a great destination for all tourists with a healthy lifestyle and a philosophical approach to nature. At Singtom, they will find beautiful accommodations, magnificent nature with breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks and a demonstration of agriculture working in harmony with the environment.
The local tea trees (Camellia sinensis) are a special Assam variety. They are grown organically, which means they must not come into contact with artificial fertilizers, chemicals or GMOs. Their cultivation, harvesting and processing do not disturb natural systems and have strict standards. The tea is harvested several times a year in Darjeeling. Darjeeling BIO 'Singtom' comes from the first harvest, so its leaves are smaller and the infusion is more delicate. Before dawn, workers head out to the plantations to fill the large bamboo baskets by hand, leaf by leaf. The tea leaves are left to wilt and ferment in the processing farms. The natural oxidation of the enzymes is essential for the production of high-quality tea. It is supervized by the plantation's general manager, who monitors the moisture content of the leaves and the temperature. This is generally maintained at around 28 °C. The next step, hot air drying, also has a great impact on the result. Burnt tea can be recognized by its caramel aroma. Finally, the tea is sorted, packaged and certified as organic.
