Origins
The basic ingredient in this tea is rooibos, which is not a real tea but the leaves and twigs of the Cape tea plant chopped into tiny pieces. It has nothing to do with tea as we know it. Yet, in the tea world, rooibos is still considered a delicious drink with many health benefits.
The Cape tea trees are shrubs that grow in a very small area near Cape Town, South Africa. Their location is limited by the need for specific soil conditions and other factors that have a major influence on their growth. These include frequent area fires and altitudes between 500-800m. Whole twigs and needle-like leaves are harvested, chopped by workers and dried in direct sunlight.
The reason behind rooibos' worldwide popularity is that it is caffeine-free, full of antioxidants, and tastes honey-sweet. It is well loved by small children and the elderly.
The white flesh of the coconut has been used in cooking, cosmetics and traditional medicine for more than 3,000 years. It is aromatic, sweet and very rich in calcium, potassium, protein and B vitamins. It is also interesting to note that the coconut is one of the largest seeds in the world. The coconut palm tree can grow up to 30m. It is mainly located in tropical areas, with information about coconuts reaching central Europe in the 16th century.
In gardens, by roadsides and at the edges of forests – raspberry bushes can be found everywhere in Europe. It's a thorny shrub with long rod-shaped shoots and it produces juicy "berries" popular in both cooking and medicine. In fact, it is an aggregate fruit of various drupelets. Raspberries probably originated in Asia and Europe. Although they have been part of the flora for a long time, it was not until the 19th century that they attracted more attention. This small garden fruit began to appear in many interesting varieties. Raspberries are particularly rich in antioxidants.
