Ingredients

100 % Black tea CEYLON SILVER KANDY FBOPF SP

Brew & Taste

This Ceylon tea with copper infusion leaves no doubt that it is one of the top black teas on the market. Its taste is slightly spicy, aromatic, sweet, and almost honeyed. Koppakanda's smell is full-bodied, thick and sweet.

Origins

The high quality of Koppakanda Tea – Ceylon Silver Kandy FBOPF SP contains a large number of tips and its leaves are plucked gently. As well as the processing and drying, the harvest is done entirely by hand. After plucking, the tea is left to wilt, followed by a closely supervized fermentation process, drying, sorting and packaging.

Ceylon tea (properly Sri Lankan tea) has a long and interesting history. The inhabitants of this southeast Asian island's formerly bet on coffee and cinnamon growth in the early days. They did well, even though they often battled tropical tornadoes. But the coffee empire was wiped out in a few months by a fungal epidemic in the mid-19th century. That's when the English brought the first tea plants to Ceylon, straight from China. Before the end of the century, it was clear that the country aspired to be a producer of exceptionally high-quality and unique-tasting tea.

The province of Kandy, from which Koppakanda hails, is described in travelogues as a verdant valley whose inhabitants were a major influence on the country's national pride and set the foundation for local culture. The capital city of the same name hides the most sacred thing in Sri Lanka – the tooth of Buddha. The inhabitants are Sinhalese. The Mahaweli River flows through the country, heading straight into the Indian Ocean.
