Ingredients
14 % Green Rooibos, 18 % Lemongrass, 1 % Vanilla, Apple, Orange, Natural aroma, VervainBrew & Taste
Green rooibos produces a slightly less strong and duller infusion than fermented red roooibos does. It is softer and more delicate, hence its light yellow color. But the aroma of Vanilla-Lemongrass more than makes up for it. The exquisite combination of lemon, sweet oranges and vanilla evokes the image of a refreshing ice cream or similarly delightful treat. The flavor matches the ingredients – the green rooibos base gives it an herbal undertone, the fruit brings a sweet and sour note and the vanilla closes everything with its warm sweetness.
Green rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, so it is perfect for supplementing the drinking regime of young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and people in recovery. In Japan, mothers prepare rooibos with their children's school lunches, so try it too... And while you're at it, make rooibos as an iced tea, too!
Origins
Although Rooibos is classified as a tea, it is not exactly a traditional tea. It's not harvested like its fellow Chinese tea plants, which grow in Asia,. The Cape tea plant, which is native only to South Africa, grows about 250km from Cape Town on just 25,000 hectares. It's the only place where the conditions are ideal for this legume-related plant. They're about 150cm and harvested in autumn with their twigs. They are quickly transported for processing, where they are chopped into smaller pieces and dried. This is because green rooibos is unfermented, so oxidation must be prevented. It undergoes a special cooling procedure before being packaged and then it goes out into the world. South Africa exports around 3,000 tonnes of rooibos a year, to approximately 140 countries. The other fruits, herbs and spices are sourced from EU suppliers. They only process organic raw materials that do not contain heavy metals or any other chemicals that can pose a health hazard to the body.
The fruit is preserved by freeze-drying, a very gentle method that prevents the loss of sensory properties or vitamins and antioxidants. As a result, it looks, tastes and smells as fresh after being re-heated.
