Ingredients
Brew & Taste
After brewing, China Yunnan Lincang White Downy tea leaves release a mild, pure aroma reminiscent of fresh spring growth with a subtle air of ripe fruit. The taste is rich but unobtrusive. The first impression is plush, soft, without any grit or astringency. Slowly, you’ll notice hints of vegetation, as if you’d crushed a young tea leaf in your fingers or caught a whiff of freshly mowed lawn. This is gradually joined with decent notes of fruit, likely stone or white fruit. The finish has a lasting sweetness to it and will stay with you long after you’ve finished the cup. Shorter steeping brings forth the natural, airy character, while slightly longer steeping intensifies its complexity and full taste.
Origins
Where else but one of the most famous and charming tea regions could we find this gem? Yes, we brought China Yunnan Lincang White Downy green tea from the mountain gardens surrounding the city of Lincang in Yunnan Province. Lincang is more precisely a prefecture (Lin-schang) located in the southwest of Yunnan, near the border with Myanmar. The landscape consists of forested mountains, deep valleys, and narrow terraces where tea has been growing for generations.
Specifically, the tea gardens where Yunnan Lincang White Downy comes from are located at altitudes of around 800-1,500 meters. The combination of fog, higher humidity, and mild temperatures slows down the growth of tea leaves, allowing them to accumulate a higher concentration of aromatic substances and natural sweetness. The soil in this part of Yunnan is slightly acidic and rich in minerals, which gives the tea a fresh, clean impression and a delicately herbal character that beautifully complements its fruity notes.
Farmers in Lincang continue a long tradition. They pick the tea by hand, carefully selecting only young leaves and buds, and then process it in small factories, where they still rely on the experience and intuition of local masters. The Lincang area is also part of the official production regions for high-quality Yunnan teas with the ‘Green Food’ label, which emphasizes sustainable farming and environmental purity.
Yunnan Lincang White Downy carries within it the imprint of mountain nature and human ingenuity. Each sip transports you to a quiet, cool morning in the mountains, when mist slowly rises above the tea plants and the air smells of damp earth and greenery.
