China Hunan Gao Shan Green Dragon – Green Tea
China Hunan Gao Shan Green Dragon is a green tea from the high-altitude gardens of Shi Men in the Chinese province of Hunan. It’s cultivated surrounded by fog and clean air, in a slightly acidic soil rich in minerals. This gives the tea a full, distinctive yet polished taste with a slightly sweet finish. If you’re looking for a tea that should be savored slowly and given full attention, here is it.

Brew & Taste
During steeping, the evenly rolled, yellowish tea leaves gradually unfurl in your cup or teapot and infuse into a bright golden tea. As the aroma first hits you, you’ll already be able to tell it’s from the high mountains – pure, natural, with a slightly floral and subtle green notes. You can look forward to a full, distinct drink with a cultured taste. Each sip is refreshing and juicy, with stealthy notes of malt slowly disappearing into a sweetish finish on the palate. The subtle floral notes combine with the green, almost earthy flavor and create a lasting harmonious aftertaste that will stay with you long after the last sip.
Origins
Green tea called China Hunan Gao Shan Green Dragon originated in Shi Men County in northern Hunan Province – a landscape of dense forests, mist-shrouded mountains, and (of course) breathtaking tea gardens. Shi Men borders Hubei Province and is one of the highest areas in Hunan, in proximity to the Huping Mountain, the highest point in the entire province at over 2,000 meters. In its foothills, at an altitude of around 1,200 meters, the tea trees from which Hunan Gao Shan Green Dragon originates are cultivated.
To get a perfect picture of the place, let's briefly describe its climate: the area lies on the border between the central and northern subtropical zones, so it’s humid, with abundant rainfall, but without extreme temperatures. The altitude and frequent fog also act as a natural filter for sunlight. The tea leaves are therefore not exposed to direct sunlight and, thanks to the specific microclimate, acquire their typical purity, long-lasting aroma, and deep, full flavor with a slightly sweet aftertaste.
Shi Men is interesting not only for its nature, but also for its history. The region is an important tea-growing area with extensive tea plantations, which have been systematically expanded and modernized in recent years. Hunan Province presents itself as having the ‘five colors of tea’. It produces green, yellow, white, and black teas. The local gardens are officially recognized tea production areas and carry Green Food label, confirming the purity of the environment and controlled production quality.
Local tea is inseparable from the culture of the local Tujia ethnic group. Their traditional methods of growing and processing tea, their respect for the mountains and forests, and their close connection to the landscape give the tea its distinctive character. So when you hold a bag of Hunan Gao Shan Green Dragon green tea in your hand, it's a bit like an invitation to travel to northern Hunan. Each infusion tells a story of overgrown slopes, misty dawns, and a long tea tradition that has been perfected here over generations.
