100 % Black tea Ceylon OP1 DECAFFEINATEDBrew & Taste
Classic Ceylon tea has a strong aroma and dark infusion. Its taste is described as full, harmonious, and with a slightly spicy finish. Ceylon OP1 is a typical breakfast tea. For this purpose, it is recommended to add some milk.
Origins
In the famous Dimbula province of Ceylon, Chinese tea trees (Camellia sinensis) have been grown since 1870. They replaced coffee plantations destroyed by a blight epidemic. Dimbula is typical for southwest monsoon rains and relatively low temperatures between January and March. The tea leaves are harvested by women and girls who pluck them by hand and place them in large bamboo baskets. After the leaves have wilted, they are rolled and twisted. An essential step in the production of black tea is fermentation, a natural chemical process that oxidizes enzymes and changes the properties of the tea. The plantation manager is responsible for controlling the temperature, humidity and length of oxidation. Next comes equally important drying because high temperatures can overheat or even burn the day's crop.
The abbreviation OP (Orange Pekoe) means that the tea consists of only leaf buds, contains very few petioles, and is rich in small, well-rolled leaves.
