Ingredients
100 % Ironwort (Sideritis syriaca)Brew & Taste
This yellow-orange infusion can taste remotely like nettle, sage, or lemon balm tea. It is sweet, herbal and very pleasant.
Origins
Greek mountain tea (Sideritis scardica) was known since the ancient times. Its effects were described, for example, by Dioscorides and could apparently heal wounds caused by iron weapons during battles. Indeed, in Greek, the word Sideritis means "that which is made of or contains iron."
The so-called mountain tea is classified by botanists in the family of the lamiaceae, which makes it realted to mint, thyme, sage, lavender and other folk-renowned herbs. It occurs at an altitude of around 1500m in a clean, pollution-free environment. It can be found on dry rocks in Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece and temperate Asia. It grows 15-40cm, its stem is straight and leaves are covered with fine hairs. It produces inconspicuous flowers from September to June and bears hard fruit.
The herb contains not only essential oils but also potassium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, aluminium, iron, copper and selenium.
