Big Jade Earring – White Tea
Big Jade Earring is a unique tea in a unique form. Careful and delicate hands have shaped the leaves into perfectly symmetrical "tea earrings". The hand-picked tea leaves have come a long way to reach our table, but it was worth it! The sight of the unfurling leaves sinking to the bottom of the teapot is one to remember. And the aroma!
Ingredients
100 % White tea BIG JADE EARRINGBrew & Taste
After brewing, this molded tea slowly unfolds and sinks to the bottom. The infusion is very light, honey-yellow in color.
The rich aroma brings to mind hay warmed by the sun. The taste is sweet, slightly smoky and smooth and it is almost free of astringent notes.
Origins
China's Yunnan province is a producer of many tea varieties. Big Jade Earring is one of those with the highest standards of production. The entire process is done entirely by hand. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to achieve the regular shape of tiny rings. The green version of this tea can be found under the name Yu Huan.
White teas are only produced, to a greater extent, in China. The largest volumes come from the Fujian provinces, but Yunnan does not stand aside either. The southwest of China is famous for its old tea bushes, the longest growing is said to be 800 years old. It is therefore no wonder that the cultivation, care and harvesting of Chinese tea trees (Camellia sinensis) is a cultural tradition of high value in Yunnan. Tea garden owners learn the craft from their fathers and grandfathers, and their wives and daughters harvest the tea.
The production of white tea is a very delicate process. After plucking the delicate tea buds and the nearest silvery leaves, the tea is slowly dried. Most often it is spread out on large platters in a cool and ventilated room. Care must be taken to avoid rapid oxidation of the enzymes, which would turn the tea leaves brown and completely change their flavor and aroma. However, a slight and desirable oxidation does occur. It takes several tens of hours to wilt and after that, the Big Jade Earring tea is hand-shaped and carefully dried.
Molded or artistic Chinese teas provide a beautiful scenery when steeped in hot water.
We recommend preparing them in a glass teapot to not deprive yourself of the aesthetic experience.
