Origins
This blend is based on three distinctive ingredients valued not only for their taste but also for their beneficial properties. Yerba maté, green tea, and guarana are among the plants that people in various parts of the world have been using for centuries – primarily to invigorate the body, boost vitality, and improve overall well-being. Each comes from a different corner of the globe, and it is their combination that creates a harmonious, energizing beverage.
The first is yerba maté, the leaves of the Paraguayan holly (Ilex paraguariensis). It's an evergreen tree that grows up to 15 meters tall, with firm dark green leaves and small white flowers. It grows naturally in the subtropical regions of South America, particularly in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil, where drinking maté is a tradition with deep roots in history. After harvesting, the leaves are dried and crushed, creating the typical raw material for preparing the distinctive, slightly earthy flavored beverage.
Yerba maté contains, for example:
- polyphenols and other antioxidants,
- caffeine and related alkaloids (mateine),
- B vitamins,
- minerals (such as magnesium and potassium).
Maté helps combat fatigue, promotes physical refreshment, and supports natural vitality. It's also traditionally used for weight management as well as to support lipid metabolism. At the same time, it contributes to the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system and acts as an antioxidant.
The second key ingredient is sencha green tea. It's made from the leaves of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). This is an evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves and small white flowers with yellow centers. Sencha comes primarily from Japan, where it's cultivated on carefully maintained plantations. After harvesting, the leaves must be briefly steamed to stop oxidation and preserve their natural freshness, color, and nutrient content.
Green tea contains primarily:
- catechins (powerful polyphenolic antioxidants),
- caffeine,
- the amino acid L-theanine,
- vitamins C, B, and E,
- minerals (such as manganese or fluoride).
Green tea is known primarily for its antioxidant properties. It supports metabolism, contributes to the normal functioning of the circulatory system, and helps maintain optimal cholesterol levels. It's also associated with supporting cognitive function, normal intestinal tract function, and overall physical stimulation.
The third key ingredient is guarana, the seeds of the climbing plant Paullinia cupana from the Amazon rainforest. It grows primarily in Brazil and other parts of the Amazon. Its fruits are round, red, and open when ripe – inside lies a dark seed surrounded by white pulp, creating an appearance reminiscent of a human eye. The seeds are the most valuable part of the plant, as they contain high amounts of natural stimulants.
Guarana seeds contain, for example:
- caffeine (in high concentrations),
- tannins,
- saponins,
- polyphenols.
Guarana has traditionally been used as a natural source of energy. It contributes to both physical and mental vitality, helps reduce feelings of fatigue, and supports concentration. It's also associated with supporting weight management and normal digestive function.
The combination of these three ingredients creates a tea that bridges the traditions of South America and Asia. The result is a pleasantly energizing beverage with a distinctive character and a complex flavor profile.
