Origins
Why did we come up with this? Because we needed it! This blend was simply created out of our desire to stay in shape while still feeling rested. It’s the result of a careful selection of several ingredients and extensive tastings accompanied by equally lengthy discussions. Now, we present you with the three main ingredients of Yerba Mate Ginseng & Ashwagandha. They’ll give you an idea of what to expect from it.
The base is yerba maté, the leaves of the Paraguayan holly (Ilex paraguariensis) native to the humid subtropical regions of South America, primarily Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Brazil. It's a tree that grows up to 15 meters tall, with dark green, leathery leaves and inconspicuous white flowers. It is the leaves that are dried (traditionally over a fire), giving them their characteristic smoky and earthy flavor.
The uniqueness of yerba matélies in its natural content of stimulants, which act more gradually and over longer periods of time than coffee. They increase alertness without sudden energy spikes and simultaneously contribute to the body’s overall vitality.
The proven health benefits of yerba maté include support for the cardiovascular system, diuresis, weight management, lipid metabolism, and the alleviation of mental and physical fatigue.
Yerba maté contains, for example:
- polyphenols (antioxidants),
- xanthines (caffeine, theobromine),
- saponins,
- B vitamins,
minerals (potassium, magnesium).
The second key ingredient in the blend is Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus). Unlike true ginseng, it doesn't belong to the Panax genus. This time, we're talking about a shrub that grows in the harsh conditions of Eastern Siberia, China, and Korea. It grows to a height of 2-3 meters, has thorny branches, and small dark berries. Teas with ginseng usually contain the root, which is firm, fibrous, and light brown.
Its uniqueness lies in its adaptogenic effects – it helps the body better respond to physical and mental stress. Siberian ginseng supports cognitive function as well as physical and mental health, blood circulation, and the body’s natural defenses.
Siberian ginseng is rich in:
- eleutherosides,
- polysaccharides,
- flavonoids,
- lignans,
vitamins, and trace elements.
The third key ingredient is ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), an herb associated with the Ayurvedic tradition. It grows primarily in India, but you can also find it in North Africa and the Middle East. It's a low-growing shrub with oval leaves and small orange-red berries hidden in a papery husk. Its root, which has an earthy, slightly bitter taste, is the part usually used in tea blends.
Ashwagandha is known as a powerful adaptogen, so it naturally helps to manage stress, promotes mental balance, and supports the body’s overall regeneration. Its effect is more harmonizing than stimulating, making it an ideal counterbalance to the invigorating power of maté. It supports mental health, relaxation, the cardiovascular system, the reproductive system, and normal respiratory function. It also contributes to the rejuvenation of the body.
Ashwagandha contains:
- withanolides,
- alkaloids,
- saponins,
- iron,
- antioxidants.
