Brew & Taste

Light yellow infusion, full-bodied taste with a slightly bitter finish and a floral aroma that reflects notes of nuts and spices. This green tea from Tanzania is great for seasoned tea drinkers and tea newbies alike. Add a teaspoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon and you have a drink for any occasion.

Origins

The Luponde Gardens are located in southern Tanzania, at an altitude of 213m. They were established in 1954 and today cover over 2,000 hectares of land. The plantation was certified by the Rainforest Alliance in 2012, but in 1994 its produce was awarded the Fair Trade Organic label.

The first tea was brought to Tanzania in 1902 by German settlers. Production of tea leaves increased after World War II, when Britain took control of the plantations. When the country gained independence in 1961 and became a republic, many tea gardens were nationalized. Tea production was very strictly controlled, but on the other hand, the state paid almost no attention to infrastructure development, investment in transport facilities or efficient maintenance of the gardens. This led to the decline of the tea industry in Tanzania and a significant drop in production.

It is reported that tea production was only a small step away from extinction. Fortunately, the privatization of the two largest tea plantations and the inflow of foreign capital saved the situation. Today, Tanzania contributes about 1% to the global tea market. Experts believe that it will continue to develop its potential.

Green teas are recommended as a welcome part of the drinking regime because of their high content of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Thanks to caffeine content, they help to increase mental and physical performance and contribute to the prevention of certain ailments through other substances.

Tanzania FOP Luponde organic green tea can be sipped throughout the day.
