Rooibos Winter Plums infusion is a beautiful mahogany color, just as you'd expect from a proper redbush tea. The aroma is harmonious and mildly sweet. Similarly, the taste is pleasantly juicy and fruity, complemented by the spicy notes of cinnamon and cloves. And if you enjoy iced tea even in the winter, feel free to prepare Rooibos Winter Plums on ice.
Origins
This blend has three particularly noteworthy ingredients that, when combined, give it its unique character: rooibos, cinnamon, and plums. Each has a different origin, a different story, and different benefits, but it is their interplay that gives the tea its wintery depth.
Rooibos, the foundation of the entire blend, comes from the Cederberg region of South Africa. There, it grows in the wild as a low shrub with delicate, needle-like leaves that take on a characteristic reddish-brown color after harvest. This plant is extremely sensitive to its environment – it requires clean air, soil, and water, making it a raw material of naturally high quality.
It contains:
- antioxidants (aspalathin, nothofagin),
- minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium),
- flavonoids.
Cinnamon adds a warm, spicy note to the blend. It's obtained from the bark of the cinnamon tree, which grows primarily in tropical regions, particularly in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Vietnam. After harvesting, the bark is rolled into the signature stick shape and dried, which gives it its distinctive aroma and flavor.
Cinnamon contains:
- essential oils (cinnamaldehyde),
- polyphenols.
Plums imbue this tea with a delicate fruity sweetness and richness. Plum fruits have smooth skin in shades of blue to purple that hides juicy flesh. They're grown in temperate zones, typically in Europe, where they have ideal conditions for ripening and developing their flavor.
If you eat a plum, you'll get:
- vitamins (C and K),
- fiber,
- natural sugars, and organic acids.
