Organic Fenugreek (Trigonella Foenum-graecum) – Powder
Fenugreek seeds are part of curry spice mixes or chutneys. By themselves, they have been prescribed by folk healers for centuries. Fenugreek powder can be added to drinks or dishes. It will relieve coughs or flatulence and help during recovery. However, it is more often used externally, to remedy inflammation and dental complications.
Ingredients
100 % Fenugreek BIOBrew & Taste
Fenugreek has a signature flavor and aroma that's inseparable from Indian cuisine.
Origins
There must be something about it, since it accompanied Tutankhamun to eternity. The seeds of this herb were found in his tomb. But the first records of fenugreek go back even further, to around 1500BC.
Fenugreek is an annual plant that grows to less than 100cm. At first glance you can recognize it by its rounded triangular leaves, yellow flowers and pods full of yellow-brown seeds. It has a signature scent and the seeds are very bitter. However, at higher temperatures, such as roasting, it loses this bitterness and the flavor takes on a much more pleasant oriental note. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) probably originated in India and the Middle East. It prefers warm climates, so it quickly spread to the Mediterranean region, also because of its former economic importance.
It was originally used as cattle feed, but soon became valued as part of gastronomy and natural medicine. In the first century AD, the Romans made wine from it and it was generally used to flavor food, tobacco or drinks. As a spice, it is still inextricably linked to Indian cuisine, where the ground seeds are added to curries and chutneys. The seeds contain large amounts of vitamin B and C, but also other important elements such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.
The uses of fenugreek seed powder are wide-ranging. It can be used to prepare poultice for external application or to prepare infusion. A popular option is to add the powder to food or fruit drinks. Consumption is not suitable for pregnant women, but it is more than recommended for nursing mothers.
