100 % Organic Nepal Kanchanjangha Verde green tea

Brew & Taste

When you brew the dried leaves of this tea, look forward to a fresh floral aroma with subtle notes of fruit. The infusion has a light golden color and a silky-smooth texture. The flavor is balanced, slightly sweet, with pleasant notes of roasted nuts, young green beans, and a subtle grassy undertone. Thanks to a specific production process, organic Nepal Kanchanjangha Verde lacks the pronounced astringency that's typical of some green teas. The overall impression is very harmonious with a long, clean aftertaste. Even better, you don't need to watch water temperature as closely as you're likely used to with other green teas – too-hot water won't hinder its character.

Origins

In the world of tea, Nepal is often overshadowed by neighboring Darjeeling, yet it is precisely in the former that some of today’s most interesting Himalayan teas are produced. Nepal Kanchanjangha Verde Organic comes from the Panchthar region in the east of the country, where tea plants are grown at an elevation of 1,300-1,800 meters. The gardens lie at the foot of the Kanchenjunga massif, the world’s third-highest mountain, in a landscape that's full of clean mountain air, dense fog, and has significant temperature differences between day and night. These specific conditions slow the growth of the tea plants, giving their leaves ample time to develop a rich aroma and a delicate, layered flavor.

The Panchthar region is situated between the well-known Nepalese tea-growing area of Ilam and Darjeeling in India. It shares similar climatic conditions with these regions, yet retains its own distinct character. Local green teas tend to be milder, less astringent, and often offer more pronounced floral and sweet nutty notes. It’s no wonder that Nepalese harvests have been gaining increasing attention from connoisseurs of fine teas around the world in recent years.

Organic Kanchanjangha Verde comes from the first certified organic tea garden in Nepal. It was founded in 1984 and, from the very beginning, has been guided by a philosophy of sustainable farming, protecting the surrounding natural environment, and supporting the local community. The tea plants are cultivated by the garden’s workers without the use of artificial pesticides or industrial fertilizers, which helps preserve the local landscape’s exceptional biodiversity and keeps the soil naturally fertile.

These principles are also present during the production of the tea; the estate’s employees take care to preserve the natural character of the leaves as much as possible. After a brief withering period, the hand-picked shoots are quickly heated to halt oxidation. Then, they're gently rolled, allowed to rest briefly, and finally dried. This process, inspired by the traditional production of Darjeeling green teas, brings out a delicate floral aroma as well as the typical notes of roasted nuts and green beans without giving the tea any pronounced bitterness.
