Origins
This "tea" does not come from the Chinese tea tree, as we are used to with black, green and white teas, and it did not grow in the tea gardens of Japan nor China. It is harvested from Cape tea trees, which grow in a very limited area in South Africa, north of Cape Town, in the Cederberg region. It cannot be grown elsewhere. The famous mountain area where the so-called redbush grows has special natural conditions not found anywhere else in the world. It has long, thin twigs and small, green, needle-like leaves. Whole twigs are cut, usually at forearm's lenghth. They are transported to certified production lines where they are chopped into approximately 5mm pieces. The tea is then heaped into large piles and left to the natural fermentation process. After 8-24 hours, the piles are spread out and the rooibos dries in direct sunlight. At this point, it is no longer green, but mahogany-copper. Rooibos comes to the world market in two varieties – as Supergrade (powdered, for use in teabags) and Choicegrade (chopped, for brewing in a teapot).
We have selected the fruits and herbs in Rooibos Lime tea with the highest quality in mind. Therefore, they come from verified EU suppliers who take extra care in the selection of ingredients, their processing, storage and transport.
We have also added a few drops of natural flavoring. It gives the tea a more balanced flavor and aroma that lasts a long time. And don't worry – natural flavoring contains no synthetics! It does not irritate the stomach nor give you heartburn or acidify the body.
