Kenya GFOP Milima Golden Tipped – Black Tea
When you say Kenya, most people think of national parks with rhinos, lions and elephants. Let's broaden our horizons and taste Kenyan tea, too. It has an intense astringent flavor that develops into a fruity finish with a honeyed line, maybe a little chocolate and apricot. Kenya GFOP Milima Golden Tipped is hot after the tropical sun and fresh after the rainforest.

After brewing, this tea gives a bright, orange-brown color. It has a scent of flowers and fruit, and its taste is intense and astringent. But there is also a pleasant honey trace and hints of plum and apple flavor. Kenya GFOP Milima Golden Tipped is similar to Ceylon teas and is perfect for serving breakfast. We recommend adding honey and lemon.
Origins
Africa's Kenya is one of the world’s leading tea producers – and that’s no coincidence. The combination of high altitude, fertile volcanic soils, and regular rainfall creates ideal conditions for growing tea plants (Camellia sinensis). It is thanks to these conditions that local teas acquire their signature intensity, clear structure, and fresh, slightly fruity character – a quality that will captivate you from the very first sip of Kenya GFOP Milima Golden Tipped.
The history of tea cultivation in Kenya dates back to the early 20th century, when tea seedlings were imported from the Indian region of Assam. Over time, however, the plants’ original genetics adapted to local conditions, giving rise to specific Kenyan cultivars that are now among the highest quality in the world. Here, instead of the lowlands, tea is cultivated in high altitudes – often above 1,800 meters. It is precisely the cooler climate and the resulting slower growth that allows the plant to concentrate more aromatic compounds to the leaves.
The Milima plantations – the origin of this tea – are located at an elevation of around 1,980 meters. The landscape is undulating, covered with tea bushes that create near endless horizons of green. Harvesting is done by hand, usually in the morning hours when the leaves are at their juiciest. Only the top buds and young leaves are picked, since they contain the most flavor and valuable compounds.
Harvesting is followed by careful processing: the leaves are gently rolled into thin, elegant 'hairs', then oxidized and dried. The result is a black tea with characteristic golden tips – delicate, downy buds. These not only look beautiful but also soften the flavor and add complexity to the tea. The GFOP (Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) designation confirms the high quality and proportion of these tips.
What does this tea contain?
- polyphenols (especially catechins and theaflavins),
- caffeine,
- tannins,
- amino acids (e.g., L-theanine),
- flavonoids,
- minerals (potassium, magnesium, manganese).
All of this makes Kenya GFOP Milima Golden Tipped not only a taste experience but also a demonstration of how crucial the origin of tea is. Every cup carries a piece of the Kenyan landscape: its sun, mists, and the red soil from which the tea plants draw their strength.
