Benefits of white tea
White tea is such a natural Cinderella. Everywhere you read about its siblings - green and black tea. And yet it is the white one that can show the world that there is beauty in simplicity.
White tea, like black and green tea, comes from the Chinese tea tree, or Camellia sinensis. It is an evergreen plant native to Asian territory. It is found freely in the southern and southeastern parts of China and other adjacent countries.
The specificity of white tea lies in the way the tea leaves are harvested and then processed. For the best quality, only young leaves with fine white hairs are selected, which are picked before they are fully opened and before the sun begins to shine on them. This way, they will retain their fresh colour and flavour. Unlike its siblings, white tea does not undergo fermentation. The leaves are only allowed to dry naturally, thus enclosing all the beneficial substances.
The taste is more similar to the green type, but it is sweeter and less intense. White tea absorbs the aromas and flavours of its surroundings very easily, which is why you may come across it in a smoked version.
White tea is a pleasant companion to a book or relaxing after a long day. Nevertheless, we must not forget that it contains caffeine (even if very little), therefore be careful with excessive drinking, especially during pregnancy.
