Benefits of oolong
The golden mean. According to legend, we can thank a deer or a snake for it. It scared the peasant in the middle of picking tea leaves. The not-so-brave farmer returned the next day to finish his job, and the oolong was born.
It is incredible how many variations the Chinese tea tree offers. Oolong is another one of them. Its very pleasantly sweet and silky flavour is sure to enchant you, and it is a wonder that the production of this tea is so small in the world. It accounts for only about 2% of the world tea market.
Oolong has remained halfway between green and black tea in the preparation process. Fermentation does occur but, it is stopped as soon as the leaves change their colour. It is popular in China and Taiwan. The first records of it can be traced back some 400 years. There are several variations of the oolong, the most famous probably originating in the Fujian province of China. Taiwan (on the other hand) offers the best climatic conditions. Oolong loves sandy and rocky soil, cooler weather and higher altitudes.
The great advantage of this tea is its taste variation. On its own, it is not so strong that it cannot withstand a combination with spices, fruit or milk. Especially the last combination is a real treat.
Like other teas, it contains a small amount of caffeine. An adult can enjoy two or three cups a day.
