Squeeze and throw away, at most grate put it into a bun. Lemon peel is a victim of this unfair treatment day after day. And yet, this bright yellow wonder certainly deserves attention.
Lemons were introduced to Europe by the Crusaders from Palestine between the years of 1000 and 1200. On our continent, they thrive most in Spain and Italy, but you can find them in almost all subtropical and tropical regions.
The tree on which they grow is evergreen, not very tall, with sweetly scented white flowers. Its fruit is usually picked while still green and ripens later.
Although lemon peel has a lot to offer us, it is a miracle in terms of household care. Its other uses are also in the cosmetics industry - in perfumes and skin creams, for instance.
There are no restrictions on the consumption of lemons, but nothing should be overdone. If you use the lemon peel, we recommend washing it carefully first or choosing organic fruit that has not been treated with chemicals. The sliced fresh or dried peel is a fantastic flavouring agent in dishes and drinks.
