Brew & Taste

The gold nugget lives up to its name when it comes to the color of the infusion. After pouring hot water over it, it turns a beautiful golden yellow. Take a moment to appreciate the scent, too – it is light and fresh. The flavor of the tea can be described as light, floral, slightly astringent and refreshing.

Origins

Blooming teas have their origins where else than in China. Once upon a time, watching them unfold was one of the favorite pastimes of members of the imperial court. In the 1960s, however, the Chinese government intervened in this tradition and banned their production as a bourgeois and aristocratic relic. It is only in the last few decades that blooming tea has made a comeback. Fortunately, they are now also making their way to Europe, so that we can present them to all our loved ones.

Making blooming tea is not easy. It is mostly done by women and girls who have skilled and careful hands. It is necessary to neatly but firmly tie several green or white tea leaves and place a colorful and fragrant flower such as tea tree bloom, jasmine, hibiscus, peony or marigold at the center.

In a 100g package of blooming tea you will usually find 15 balls of blooming tea, but the actual number solely depends on its weight. Each can be steeped several times. If the tea flower does not cease to amaze you even after the last infusion, you can display it in clean and cold water for a few days as a decoration.
