Origins
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary bundle of tea; but as soon as you pour hot water over it, something magical happens – the bud slowly opens and a flower blooms right in front of you. But where did these blooming teas come from?
Blooming teas, also known as flowering or artisan teas, originated in China, specifically in the province of Yunnan. Their origin dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), when tea became more than just a delicious refreshment and people started enjoying it for the visual pleasure it could bring. So-called tea artists began to hand-tie green, white, or black tea leaves into bundles which, when brewed, unfolded into flower shapes often resembling lotuses, jasmine, or chrysanthemums.
Today, these teas are popular not only in Asia but also in Europe. They’re popular for their originality and almost poetic quality which combines handmade tea, tradition, and the subtle beauty of nature. Each bundle is an original art piece and offers a completely unique moment.
The Black Pearl blooming tea hides a beautiful amaranth flower. It captivates not only by its appearance, but also by its symbolism – the ancient Aztecs and Mayans considered it a sacred plant and an important source of nutrition. Amaranth flowers and leaves are rich in flavonoids, vitamins, and minerals such as iron, magnesium, and calcium.
We’ll also share a tip on how to best enjoy blooming tea: All you need is a clear glass teapot and a little peace and quiet. Add a bundle of tea and pour in water at a temperature of about 80°C. Enjoy as the bud slowly opens and in a few minutes, it’ll reveal a stunning flower. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes and enjoy your tea – then, if you can’t have enough of this delicacy, brew it for a second time, just for 2-3 minutes.
Each 100 g pack contains approx.15 hand-tied bundles that’ll delight your senses and offer space for a much needed break.
