Ingredients
100 % Oolong GinsengBrew & Taste
Oolong ginseng has a strong, unusual aroma and amber infusion. The flavor is rich, fresh, with a trace of pleasantly sweet ginseng.
Origins
Oolong is one of the highly prized "specialty" teas worldwide. It is semi-fermented, so it ranks somewhere between green and black teas. It is without the high fermentation of black tea and with lower levels of caffeine. In China, oolong is classified as a traditional tea. It is produced by a unique process in which the tea leaves are wilted in the sun, then oxidized (ranging from 8-85%), and finally rolled and shaped into small balls. Most oolongs are prepared from the finest specialty tea varieties. More obscure producers include the mountains of northern Fujian.
Traditionally, ginseng was added to oolong by boiling it in water, which was then used to make the tea. Thanks to modern processes, it is possible to produce ginseng tea directly. This beneficial herb is first ground into powder, that is used to fortify the oolong. The underground parts of the herb are either dried in the sun or steamed with sugar or herbs and then ground or chopped. Connoisseurs identify a high-quality ginseng oolong by drinking an equal amount of warm water after tasting the tea. If they can still feel a pleasant trace of ginseng in their mouth, they can be sure of the high quality of the tea.
Oolong ginseng also appears on the market under the names Ren Shen Wu Long, Ren Shen Oolong, Ginseng Wu Long or Lan Gui Ren.
