Origins
Denseflower mullein, or Verbascum densiflorum, is simply not to be missed. With its impressive height of up to 2m, it towers above all other plants like a golden beacon. It is a biennial herb that is covered in fine hairs. From May to September, it is also adorned with bright yellow flowers. These are loved by bees, which is why mullein is often deliberately planted around beehives.
It is completely undemanding plant. It doesn't mind direct sun, lack of nutrients in the soil, drought or steep slopes. It is at home all over Europe, but you can also find it on the American continents. Native Americans, for example, used to put mullein leaves in their moccasins to keep their feet from getting wet.
Folk medicine often utiizes mullein flowers. They are harvested during the day and then carefully dried in the sun. If you add them to honey, you get a delicious syrup that you can use as a great addition in the kitchen. The infusion of the flowers themselves is both simple and delicious. You can drink it or use it for poultices.
You can drink mullein tea in normal amounts for several weeks, after which we advise a break. As is unfortunately the case with most herbs, mullein is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
