Infusion and flavour of the tea

The Darjeeling SFTGFOP1 FF Steinthal BIO tea will delight you with its fruity-floral aroma and fresh, delicate flavour, at the end of which you will taste a touch of herbs and flowers. The infusion has a light amber colour and can be made three times from one batch of tea.

Origin of the tea

Darjeeling from eastern India is one of the most admired and highly sought-after teas. The first harvest, in particular, is eagerly awaited. Therefore, we are pleased to present tea leaves from the garden of Steinthal Tea Estates (now part of Singtom Tea Estate), flown in directly from the plantation, so that you can be among the first in the world to taste this unique tea. The garden was founded in 1862 by a German missionary, Father Steinthal, and some of the first bushes still grow on the slopes of Darjeeling today. The ancestors of the current tea trees and their successors are now cared for by the fifth generation of the Chirimar family. The whole area leaves a stunning impression on the visitor. The hillsides are covered with green bushes, the Rungeet River flows through the valley, and the scenic views captivate you no matter which way you turn.

The plantations are spread over 1.6 acres of mineral-rich soil. On a clear day, you can see Mount Everest in the distance. The combination of high altitude, cool climate, frequent fog, rainfall and clean air makes Darjeeling a unique growing area. The tea there has a musky, delicate flavour. In the case of the first spring harvest, it adds a kind of crispness and juiciness. The leaves and buds of the tea plants (produced by crossing chinensis and Assamica) are harvested by hand at an outdoor temperature of 5-20 °C. To be labelled as Darjeeling, they must come from an altitude of at least 914 metres. The workers then process them in a similar way to green teas, meaning only by imperfect oxidation.

Nevertheless, Darjeeling is traditionally referred to as black tea. In conclusion, this Darjeeling SFTGFOP1 FF Steinthal BIO comes from organic farming by name, which does not use industrial fertilisers or treatment products. The abbreviation SFTGFOP1 FF refers to the first harvest (First Flush) of the highest quality tea (Super Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe)."
