Brew & Taste

Chai Latte is not your regular tea. It is a fine powder to be stirred in hot water or milk. Its taste can be described as sweet and pleasantly spicy. You will mostly notice cinnamon and vanilla.

Origins

Masala Chai, which inspired this blend, is a traditional Indian beverage made from tea, milk, spices and sweetener. "Masala" in Hindi means a mixture of spices, and "chai" translates to tea. Usually, Masala Chai is cooked on the stove or over a fire and served hot.

Perhaps every family has a traditional recipe for Masala Chai. However, the main ingredients remain the same: tea leaves, milk, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. In some areas, they add pepper, aniseed or fennel. Sugar and honey are used for flavoring.

The popularity of this tea has long since spread beyond India, so it is no wonder that people in Western countries also enjoy it. And that they are inspired by it when making similar blends. Chai Latte is one of them.

It is based on organic-quality black tea. It comes from a garden that does not use industrially produced fertilizers, sprays or treatments to grow Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis). Cinnamon and vanilla have been grown in the same environmentally friendly way. Cinnamon is usually harvested in tropical and subtropical areas (India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and China) from the cinnamon tree (Cinnamomi) native to South Asia. It is its inner bark with a distinctive and sweet taste. It is often added to dishes such as desserts, biscuits, meat sauces, curries and so on. Cinnamon contains many bioactive compounds, including essential oils, tannins and coumarins. The most important component is cinnamaldehyde, which gives it its typical taste and aroma.

Let us briefly mention vanilla, whose flavor gives Chai Latte Organic its sweet character. Vanilla is obtained from the fruit of the vanilla tree, a plant of the orchid family native to Mexico. The spice is produced by drying and fermenting the green fruits of the vanilla plant. It is rich in antioxidants, but also some minerals such as magnesium or potassium. Vanilla is most commonly found in sweet desserts, perfumes and many cosmetic products.
