Ingredients
100 % Black tea Assam STGFOPIBrew & Taste
Assam TGFOPI Margerita has a dark amber infusion with a refreshingly astringent and slightly sweet aroma. The taste is rich and intense, pleasantly fresh, leaving a lingering sweetness on the palate. Assam teas tend to be popular as part of English breakfasts. Try it with milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar.
Origins
This tea did not grow at the foot of high hills, whipped by icy winds or droughts. The Assam TGFOPI Margerita comes from an area with an average altitude of 150m, an undulating landscape and several tea plantations close to forests and a river. The Margerita tea garden is located in the Tinsukia district in the eastern part of Assam, India. It was established in 1884 and today covers an area of 1000 hectares. It is said to have been named by the queen of Italy.
Assam produces over half of India's tea. Because Chinese tea trees (Camellia sinensis) are grown at low altitudes, their leaves take on a malty sweetness and earthy flavor. The tea industry in the region was established by British planters, whose descendants still form a significant group of Assam's population. It is an interesting fact that 50% of the plantation employees are women. And it is also important to mention that their socioeconomic status needs to be constantly improved. There is a lack of affordable housing, transport, education and medical care. In 1951 a state regulation was passed stipulating that every tea garden should have a health center with adequate care. Unfortunately, not all parts of the country have been able to comply with it.
The harvesting of tea in Assam is mostly done by hand, and very early in the morning. The leaves wither after a few hours, then are left to the natural process of enzyme oxidation in higher temperatures and humidity and finally are shaped, dried, sorted out and packed by workers or machines.
The abbreviation TGFOPI (Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) refers to premium teas containing fluffy buds.
