Ingredients
100 % Acerola BIOBrew & Taste
Acerola has various uses. If you mix it in a glass of clean water, you’ll get a gold-ish drink that will surprise you with a pleasantly sour taste without any astringency that’s so common with, for example, lemons.
Origins
Acerola, also known as West Indian cherry, Guaraní cherry, or Barbados cherry, originates from the sunny Caribbean region and Central America. Over time, however, it’s naturally spread to the South American continent and some subtropical regions of Asia. Due to its beneficial effects on the human body, people have been cultivating it across almost the entire tropical belt in recent years; subsequently, you can also find it in Australia, Ghana, the Canary Islands, and the southernmost tip of Florida.
Acerola cherries grow on an evergreen, moderately large shrub. The plant has to mature for about three years before it can bear first fruits. After that, it becomes covered in red berries up to 3 cm in size, which look incredibly similar to the cherries we know in Europe. Under the skin hides yellow flesh, which gives the powder its golden color.
The taste of raw acerola (Latin Malpighia emarginata) is extremely sour. And it's no wonder, since one cherry contains as much vitamin C as two whole lemons. The intense sourness makes it pretty unpalatable for direct consumption, which is why acerola is most often found in fruit juices and syrups as well as in capsules or powder form.
Considering these forms, powder clearly wins in terms of benefits. It’s an easily absorbable source of all the important substances that acerola contains. The powder is made from freeze-dried fruit, so it retains all its vitamins and minerals, and it dissolves very easily, making it ideal as a healthy and tasty ingredient in a wide variety of foods and drinks. But it’s also great with just plain water; you can easily use it to prepare a vitamin bomb that’ll also give you a real boost and refresh you.
In small doses, acerola is suitable for pregnant women; it’s an incredible dietary supplement that supports everyone’s health.
