Yerba Mate Natural Citrus
Their flag has two blue stripes and an image of a sun. The capital is Buenos Aires. And the most popular drink there is savored from a gourd. Did you guess it? Yes, it's Argentina, home of the Paraguayan holly whose leaves make a refreshing and smooth drink. The citrus-flavored mate can be enjoyed as much at a picnic in the park as at home in the living room. But it's always invigorating!
Ingredients
80 % Yerba Mate, 18 % Lemongrass, Natural aromaBrew & Taste
Natural Citrus maté gives a greenish-yellow infusion. Its aroma is elegant and naturally delicate. The taste can be described as fresh, slightly sour and smoky. Because we have added lemongrass and natural flavoring, the drink is deliciously citrusy.
Origins
Argentina is a South American country that is neighbored by the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It has a rich fauna and flora, which is to some extent due to the variety of terrain and climate. To the north lie the fertile pampas, the adjacent plains gradually merging into the Andes mountain range. The climate of Argentina is mild, with forests, farmland and areas without vegetation covering the territory.
Yerba mate is commonly called "green gold". It was originally chewed along with coca leaves by indigenous people in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The Paraguayan holly (Illex paraguariensis), from whose leaves mate is made, usually grows at an altitude of 500-700m. It is an evergreen tree that loves the banks of streams and the shade of the forest. In the wild, it grows up to 20m in height and has deep green oval leaves with a scalloped edge. These are the ones that are harvested and quite difficult to process.
Holly leaves are pinched off with the whole twigs. The farmers stuff them into sacks, where they begin to ferment due to the natural moisture and the disruption of the cellular structures. When the process is complete, the yerba mate is subjected to a short heating period. This is followed by drying and coarse grinding. The mass again goes into sacks where it matures for 12-24 months.
Before shipping, mate is ground, sorted and packaged again.
