Ingredients
Black tea, 2 % Vanilla pieces, AromaBrew & Taste
Vanilla Dream Black Tea gives a dark amber infusion. Its taste is crisp, refreshing and sweet at the end. It is complemented by sweet vanilla. The resulting composition is reminiscent of bourbon.
Origins
Black tea may be more associated with the Queen of England than with Chinese tea masters. Yet, it was them who gave the "long-life" version of tea to the world. In fact, by the mid-17th century, the demand for this delicious beverage had grown in Europe, since green and white teas tended to lose their color, taste and aroma over the several months it took to transport.
The prolonged oxidation (often incorrectly labeled fermentation) of enzymes that occurs in the production of black tea ensures that all the desirable sensory properties are preserved. Thus, the tea might as well have gone to the English court.
What does black tea production look like? First, you need to pluck enough leaves of Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis). In the case of rare tea varieties, they are hand-picked by women and girls into large bamboo baskets. The tea is then left to wilt and rolled or shaken. This disrupts the cellular structures in the leaves, releasing the juice and starting the oxidation of enzymes. This process is very closely monitored and controlled by the plantation manager. The correct temperature and the length of oxidation depend on the final quality of the tea. Once the oxidation is sufficient, the tea is dried, and the workers sort and package it.
It is also worth mentioning the second ingredient of Vanilla Dream: vanilla. This aromatic spice is well-known in the food or cosmetics industry. The capsules of vanilla trees (which, by the way, are orchids) were first brought to Europe at the beginning of the 16th century. Originally from Mexico, vanilla trees can now be grown in Madagascar, French Polynesia and Bourbon Island thanks to the discovery of artificial pollination. Vanilla is popular for its distinctive scent and sweet taste.
