Origins
Teas from Sumatra are pretty rare, so we'll share some knowledge on them.
The world's sixth largest island is famous for its breathtaking nature and beautiful temples. The name Sumatra comes from the original Samudra Pasai, with Samudra meaning ocean. It is believed that it was Marco Polo who coined the name Sumatra in his letters to Queen Elizabeth I. In Indonesia's ancient history, we also come across the poetic Swarnadwipa, the island of gold.
The wild and rugged landscape is riddled with active volcanoes, lakes, beaches, and rainforests with incredibly diverse flora and fauna and the culture of the local people. Sumatra is divided into 10 districts. The tea gardens of Sidamanik are located in the north. Because it is close to the famous Lake Toba, it is a popular destination for many visitors from all over the world. Sidamanik Tea Garden is the largest tea plantation in Sumatra, with a long history dating back to Dutch colonial rule. It is also commonly referred to as Butong Bah.
The plantations are so huge. When you stand in the center, you'll see hills of lush green tea trees. Their incredibly delicious scent permeates every pore and lingers on your mind.
The fertile volcanic soil as well as regular rainfall allow the tea to be harvested in Sumatra all year round. A careful selection of tea leaves and gentle processing guarantee the high quality of the tea.
Sumatra BOP1 Bah Butong is perfect for iced and hot drinks. You can boldly add sugar, honey, cream, or lemon.
