Origins
Although rooibos is classified as a tea, it is not quite one of them. It is not harvested from Chinese tea bushes, as is the case with black, green and white teas, but from Cape tea plants, herbs in the bean family. These grow in a very small area of the world, about 250km from Cape Town in South Africa. Nowhere else do they have the necessary conditions of high humidity, sun, partial shade and warmth as in the Cederberg region. The unique 150cm high bushes are harvested in autumn by cutting down the entire branches with the needle-like leaves. The twigs are chopped into smaller pieces and piled into large heaps. They are left like this for 8-24 hours, where they ferment. The result is a mahogany color and a great flavor. The product is then dried in direct sunlight, sorted and exported.
The other ingredients we used to blend the Rooibos Six-Spice tea are sourced from certified companies in the EU. They guarantee quality ingredients from organic farming.
