Origins
Speaking of turmeric, let's mention that the so-called Indian saffron grows naturally in South Asia. Most turmeric is exported to the world from India, but it is also grown in Sri Lanka, China, Indonesia and Peru.
The most interesting thing about the plant is the root and its rootstalks. It is from these that the well-known deep yellow spice is produced. The rhizomes must first be boiled for a long time, then dried and finally ground. Turmeric is then used in cooking or as a coloring agent. You may know it as part of the popular spice curry. Recently, the so-called golden milk has also grown in popularity.
Turmeric contains curcuminoids, powerful antioxidants that support the immune system. Folk medicine recommends using turmeric both internally and externally to rinse the face. In India, for example, the spice is mixed with water and applied to the skin, which gives it a beautiful glow and also improves blood circulation.
Refreshing Turmeric tea also contains apples, papaya and other pieces of freeze-dried fruit. Freeze-drying is a modern method in which foods are frozen at -20 to -50⁰C under low pressure. In such conditions, sublimation occurs: the frozen water is transformed into a gas, which is then desublimated on coolers. The entire process takes several hours to days, leaving only 1-4% water in the material without damaging its internal structure or sensory properties. Freeze-dried fruit therefore looks, smells and tastes just like fresh fruit when rehydrated.
