Moringa with Vervain & Lemon – Herbal Tea
Ever heard of the miracle tree? What about the tree of life? These nicknames belong to none other than moringa, an incredibly versatile Indian tree. Its leaves, fruit, flowers, even roots are packed with nutrients. When paired with vervain, you’re in for a day full of health, relaxation, and delicious tea.
Ingredients
27 % Lemongrass, Candied mango (mango, sugar), 20 % Moringa leaves, 9 % Vervain, Chamomile flowers, Orange chunks, Natural aroma, Pear chunks, SunflowerBrew & Taste
After brewing Moringa with Vervain & Lemon, you’ll get a light-yellow tea with a fragrant, refreshing scent. The taste is similar to oranges, mangoes, lemons, and figs. The aroma is balanced, rich, and very pleasant.
Origins
The main ingredient of this tea is Moringa oleifera, a tree native to India. Due to its excellent properties and relatively good adaptability, farmers also grow it in Arabia, Madagascar, and Africa. Moringa grows up to 12 m in the wild, but is kept lower in plantations to maintain easy access to its leaves, flowers, and fruit. It grows very fast, up to 3 m a year, making it the second fastest growing plant in the world right after bamboo. Dried and ground moringa leaves are added to teas, smoothies, or supplements and the seeds are often pressed for oil.
Moringa has a high content of:
- Vitamin C (up to 7 times more than oranges),
- vitamin A (beta-carotene),
- calcium (4 times more than milk),
- iron, potassium,
- protein (full spectrum of essential amino acids),
- antioxidants (especially polyphenols and flavonoids).
The second essential ingredient in Moringa with Vervain & Lemon is, of course, vervain; Verbena officinalis is an herb with tiny purple to blue-purple flowers growing in long spikes. You can also recognize vervain by its finely serrated leaves. If you live in the Central European countryside, you can find it along field borders, in dry meadows, or on pastures. It thrives in temperate climates throughout Europe and Asia. Dried, it’s mainly used for herbal teas, but also in baths or as an ingredient in special blends.
Vervain is rich in:
- tannins,
- flavonoids (e.g. luteolin),
- plant mucilage,
- essential oils,
- iridoid glycosides.
