Mojito – Green Tea
Originally from Cuba, this alcoholic drink is abundant with limes, mint and rum... Sounds familiar yet? No summer party or exotic vacation is complete without a mojito. And now you can try it in the form of tea. We've combined sencha and gunpowder, limes and mint... only the rum didn't make the cut. But maybe that's a good thing. This way, you can enjoy the popular drink with no remorse.
Ingredients
Green tea China Sencha, Green tea China Gunpowder Super, Lemon peel, Mint leaves, Lemongrass, Liquorice, Natural aromaBrew & Taste
Mojito green tea gives an infusion of light amber color and a delicate, fresh aroma. In the taste, you immediately identify the peppery mint and sour lemons. They are nicely complemented by the light, refreshing astringency of both green teas. You may also notice the faint smokiness of the gunpowder. The result is a tea that tastes pleasant and bright, as if cool, with a citrusy caress.
This tea blend is suitable for iced drinks. However, it also tastes great in its hot version.
Origins
The popularity of mojito is probably due mostly to Ernest Hemingway, who fell in love with it during his stay in Cuba, and James Bond, who sipped it in the film Die Another Day. To be fair, though, the history of the mojito goes back much further. Legend tells of the pirate Francis Drake, who concocted the drink perhaps to quell illness, perhaps to cheer up his cronies. Back then, it was called El Draque. Eventually, it evolved into the now-familiar name mojito, and in 2013 it even became the most popular global cocktail.
So what does mojito actually consist of? Mint, limes, cane sugar, sparkling water and good white rum. And what is Mojito tea made of? Mint, lemon zest, lemongrass and two excellent green teas. Let's talk about those a bit more.
Sencha from Chinese tea plantations is characterized by a very natural, slightly grassy taste accompanied by sweetness and medium astringency. The most famous plantations in China are located in Fujian or Yunnan. The green leaves of Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis) are often prepared according to a Japanese recipe, i.e., they are not roasted but steamed. This stops oxidation and seals the precious aroma inside.
In contrast, China gunpowder super is roasted. This gives it a very distinctive flavor with a smoky aroma. Its leaves resemble tiny pearls or also balls of gunpowder – hence its name. The tightly coiled leaves of gunpowder unfurl quickly when poured over with hot water and impart their amazing flavor and aroma to the drink.
