Origins
Black pepper, also known as the “King of spices”, comes from the Piper nigrum plant. It grows in tropical climate, but particularly in India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Black pepper is the most widely used seasoning and is indispensable in many cuisines around the world. It’s also popular for the health benefits it brings, such as healthy digestion and supporting the nervous system.
Cloves are the flower buds of the clove tree, often found growing around the islands of Indonesia, such as Zanzibar. This spice is highly regarded for its strong and intensive flavor. It even used to be a luxury good in the past. It’s rich in antioxidants and supports your gut.
Cardamom is another rare Indian and Southeast Asian spice. The two main varieties are green cardamom and black cardamom, the former better know for it’s use in the culinary field and the latter regarded for its more intensive taste. It’s generally popular for its signature flavor and aroma and often used to support healthy digestion and mental health.
Cinamon comes from the Cinnamomum tree grown around Southeast Asia, but mostly Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia. This seasoning is well known for its aromatic properties and has been in high regard since the ancient times when it was used not only in cuisine, but also in folk medicine. Today it’s mostly used to support healthy lungs and digestion.
Ginger also has its roots – pun intended – in Southeast Asia. In ancient India and China, ginger has been used for millennia to support the immune system.
