Origins
When you say Long Zhu White, every tea drinker imagines neat little balls of light grey-green. Add milk essential oil and "Milk" to the name, and you have a unique specialty tea. It is recognized by experts from east to west, north to south. It is prepared in teahouses and has a firm place in many homes.
Long Zhu White is a traditional white Chinese tea. It is also sometimes called Dragon Pearl or Imperial Pearl. It is made from young buds and leaves of the Chinese tea tree. Its harvesting and processing is strictly controlled, entirely manual and handled by the most experienced staff. It is the care with which the tea is harvested and produced, that determines the final flavor composition, aroma, color and appearance of the tea. All of these play a vital role in its sale.
The harvesting of tea trees in China's Fujian province usually takes place between March and April. This is when the leaves are used to make white tea. When the farmers prepare Long Zhu White Milk tea, they steam the leaves and then soak them in milk essential oil, which they repeat several times. After partially drying, the tea is hand-rolled into tiny beads, dried, sorted and packed. Thanks to this traditional process, it retains all its desirable properties and acquires a unique milky flavor.
