The infusion has a bright yellow shade and carries a surprising sweetness and delicacy, which is crowned with umami in the finish.
Origins
You'd look in vain for Satsuma Province on a map today. This historic region was known for its beautiful pottery, not least tea sets. In the late 19th century, however, it and the surrounding regions formed the current province of Kagoshima on Kyushu Island.
The local tea gardens are world-renowned for their world-class green teas. And sencha is one of the most popular. For many Japanese people, drinking it is a regular ritual to make their busy day more enjoyable. And it doesn't just have to be hot. Sencha also tastes great as an iced tea.
For Japan Sencha Satsuma, the finest young leaves are carefully selected to provide maximux freshness and aroma. During the first harvest in late April/May, the leaves are hand-picked and then steamed. They are then hand-rolled again into regular needles of a deep green color. The organic cultivation of the tea plants, which have to obtain the necessary substances from the nutrient-rich soil themselves, is certainly crucial for the perfect result.
When you prepare Japanese Sencha Satsuma, you can expect a delicious combination of enchanting aroma, sweetness and a burst of energy. But in the first infusion, all green tea lovers will also find the famous umami, the fifth taste, which takes the experience of a cup to a whole new level.
