Ingredients
100 % Organic Japan GyokuroBrew & Taste
This famous Japanese green tea is in top organic quality. Its infusion is yellow-green and the taste has a fifth special umami flavor complemented by a delicate sweetness.
Origins
In the very south of Japan, on the island of Kyushu, you can find Miyazaki Prefecture. It is surrounded on two sides by the ocean, so it has a mild climate with plenty of sunshine and fresh sea air. This formerly neglected region has been making a name for itself in recent years, winning award after award for its teas. Very old tea trees and bushes are grown in the local gardens, which are then used to produce the true tea rarity of the region – Miyazaki Gyokuro. The emphasis here is on interfering as little as possible with the natural growth of the tree, so that it takes exactly what it needs from nature.
As soon as the buds emerge, the tea trees are completely shaded by straw mats and remain hidden from the sun's rays for almost 3 weeks. This provides the dark green leaves with a rich supply of caffeine and amino acids. Perhaps the most important of these is L-theanine, whose positive effects have amazed the scientific community for many years. In addition, the shade releases into the leaves the substances behind its famous umami flavor. This is also known as the 'fifth taste' (after sweet, salty, sour and bitter) and can hardly be described unambiguously. But when you taste it, you are guaranteed to fall for it.
After 20 days of twilight, the harvest follows, which, by carefully selecting only the most flawless leaves, ensures that only the best will make it into the final tea. The proverbial icing on the cake is steaming the leaves and buds and then hand-forming them according to ancient traditional methods.
Due to the harsh conditions for growth and subsequent production, Japanese gyokuro production is low, just a few tons a year, making it a rarity given the huge global demand.
Japan Miyazaki Gyokuro, like other green teas, does not undergo fermentation and therefore retains its pure naturalness and large amounts of antioxidants. However, what elevates it above other teas in this category is its unmistakable deliciousness and silky flavor from the first sip to the bottom of the pot.
