Hercampuri – Herb
This herb is notably bitter, yet it doesn't hinder its popularity. In phytotherapy, Hercampuri is primarily used to encourage healthy digestion. Native Peruvians refer to it as Té Amargo due to its taste. For us, it is simply "bitter tea". The herb grows in remote mountainous regions, is harvested by hand, and dried slowly and thoroughly.
Ingredients
100 % HercampuriBrew & Taste
Hercampuri infusion has a light yellow to slightly green color. It smells subtly grassy, a bit like peas. Its flavor is strong and bitter.
Origin of the tea
Hercampuri is one of the herbs that look unimportant but pack a big, healthy punch. It can be found in inaccessible places in the Peruvian Andes, where it grows in small groups. The conditions prevailing at an altitude of 3,500-4,500m allow the plant to reach a maximum of 15cm. It has small, yellow to dark green leaves and blooms with purple or dark blue flowers. The fruit contains black or brown seeds, which it uses to reproduce.
You can also find this Peruvian medicinal herb under other names such as Hircampuri, Té de Chavín, or Hjircan Pureck. The latter was given to it by the Quechua tribes and translated to "the one who walks". It refers to the people who went around the villages bringing medicinal herbs, which apparently included Hercampuri.
Although Hercampuri's home is in the Peruvian provinces of Puno, Cajamarca, or Cuzco, the herb is now grown in South America, the US, and even Europe. For phytotherapy purposes, the whole above-ground part is used, which is harvested by hand and carefully, slowly dried.
In addition to bitter glycosides, the stems, leaves, and flowers contain euritarin and minerals (calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, and aluminium). Because Hercampuri tastes bitter, it is recommended to start with small doses and gradually increase them.
Hercampuri should not be used by people with stomach and duodenal ulcers, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and children. Do not take this herb more than 2 months at a time.
