Benefits of vervain
Across cultures and historical periods - the vervain has always established a privileged position for its powerful strength. Whether it was given an otherworldly origin from the tears of grief of the Egyptian goddess Isis or attributed to the ability to perform miracles when placed on the wounds of Jesus Christ after the crucifixion, it has always been considered an exceptional plant.
The Herb of grace, verbena, the Tears of the goddess Juno. Think of any culture, and you can be sure that vervain was worshipped in that culture. From the Egyptians to the Vikings to the indigenous peoples of the Americas. The Druids mixed it into magical potions, and the Greeks and Romans decorated their altars with it.
It originally grew in the Mediterranean region but gradually spread to other parts of the world, including Asia, America and parts of Africa. It has small purple-coloured flowers and can be found wild without planting.
It makes a tasty infusion with a hint of lemon. You may also come across a tonic intended for external lubrication of aching joints and for cleansing the skin.
The vervain has no proven harmful effects, but it is not recommended for pregnant women because of its diuretic properties. However, folk medicine has recommended it in small doses at the very end of pregnancy to facilitate childbirth.
