Ingredients
61 % Yerba Mate, 21 % Vervain, Green tea, 6 % Lemongrass, Natural aromaBrew & Taste
The taste of maté is somewhat original, so it takes some getting used to. But it's not unpleasant. Mate is just strong, slightly bitter, a little earthy and smoky. We added green tea and lemongrass to soften it a bit. In their company, the Detox blend works harmoniously and pleasantly. The infusion is pale yellow, the aroma is fresh and lemony.
Origins
Maté is a South American beverage made from the leaves of the Paraguayan holly (Ilex paraguariensis).
It is also called "green gold" by Native South Americans, who discovered its magical powers. Holly is an evergreen tree that loves shady places with plenty of moisture. It is mainly grown in Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil. It is a plant with an extremely interesting life cycle – its seeds must pass through the digestive tract of birds to germinate.
Farmers keep Paraguayan holly at a height of around 8m to allow easier access to its leaves. Every 3-4 years, they harvest the terminal branches from which they pluck the ovate leaves with a scalloped edge. They are processed through fermentation and oxidation by the farmers stuffing them into sacks and leaving them to ferment naturally. To stop the process, they expose the plant material to a short period of high temperature. Yerba maté is then dried and ground. Finally, it is put back into the sacks and aged for 12-24 months. Finally, the next step is grinding, sorting and packaging.
