Benefits of redcurrant

Summer without redcurrants in the garden? Unthinkable! But is it winter now? Then go search the freezer right away, maybe you have a few pounds left. Or go make some red fruit tea.

Like its black cousin, the redcurrant is native to northern and western Europe and parts of northern Asia. It is a medium-sized shrub whose branches grow straight out of the ground. It is abundantly covered with small, bright red berries which, under ideal conditions, can produce up to four kilograms per plant.

The taste of red currants is slightly more acidic than the black variety but is nevertheless pleasantly refreshing. It is therefore not surprising that you find it in baked and unbaked desserts, beverages and cocktails. It is also very popular in jams. A huge advantage is its easy storage, during which it loses none of its benefits. Many people freeze it after picking, but the fruit can also be dried. This version is great in loose fruit teas. Incidentally, infusions are also made from dried currant leaves.

You do not have to restrict your consumption of the fruit, so enjoy it as much as you like.
