Benefits of pear
If you tell a woman that she has a pear-shaped figure, she probably will not be pleased. But if you mention that she is as sweet as a pear, she will be delighted. Believe us. After all, this fruit, with its sweet taste and juiciness, is a symbol of the beauty of summer.
There are approximately 4,000 species of pear trees, but only about 30 have edible fruit. Pears are small fruits, and most have a specific shape, with the upper part under the stem being much thinner than the rounded bottom. The colour of the ripe fruit can vary from yellow to red, but all varieties have a typical fine-grained texture.
The pear tree is a beautiful flowering tree found throughout the temperate zone. It has been known to humankind since ancient Greece and Rome. In recent decades, variants resistant to diseases such as scab and Erysiphales have been bred.
Pears ripen pretty much all year round, depending on the variety. Which is no bad thing, given the plethora of processing methods. You can eat the fruit on its own, add it to meat and cheese or desserts, dry it, preserve it, or use it to make the famous pear brandy. Hot pear juices with cloves and perhaps a splash of alcohol are delicious, but dried pieces of the fruit added to tea blends are worth a try.
The best part is that all of these goodies (except the pear juice) can be enjoyed by anyone and in any quantity.
