Benefits of jiaogulan
Sometimes, you need to take advice, especially when it comes to your health. And that is what this plant can do. It will teach your body how to better protect itself from harmful influences. It is called an adaptogen.
Jiaogulan, popularly known as five-leaf ginseng, is a climbing gourd-like plant. It has nothing in common with actual ginseng, but because of its similar active ingredients, traditional medicine has called it that. Because true ginseng was scarce and relatively expensive in southern China, where jiaogulan comes from, an alternative was sought. And it was found.
Gynostemma pentaphyllum, the official name for jiaogulan, has spread from the mountainous regions of southern China to Japan and Thailand. Its adaptogenic effects have earned it the nickname "the herb of immortality". It does not provide eternal life, but it can protect our organism from increasingly harmful influences from the external environment.
The amount of active substances contained in the plant is related to the environment in which it grows. Jiaogulan is relatively easy to grow in our country, but it can only provide sufficient benefits for our health in its native habitat. Therefore, it is best to check the origin when buying it.
You can make a delicious infusion from dried ginseng leaves. Interestingly, unlike other teas and herbal infusions, this one does not turn bitter when you overdo it.
Because of the possible effect on hormone levels, it is not recommended for consumption by pregnant and breastfeeding women. It should also be avoided by people with coagulation.
