Benefits of green tea

Do you know what a blue zone is? It is an area where the inhabitants live to an above-average age. And if you ask what is behind it in Japan, for example, they will unanimously tell you that it is definitely the regular and beloved drinking of green tea.

It is said to be the healthiest drink on the planet. Green tea comes from the old, famous Chinese tea tree. Historical records from China go back as far as 5000 years. However, due to the complex process of processing and preservation, it was initially a very luxurious item. Fortunately for us, technology has advanced, and green tea has gradually spread to all social classes and the rest of the world.

Approximately two and a half million tonnes of tea leaves are produced annually, a full fifth of which is green tea. The most popular variant is sencha, but matcha or gyokuro are becoming increasingly popular. These and other forms of green tea come from a single plant at all times, but their character is determined by the region in which they are grown, the altitude, the quality of the soil, and the method of harvesting. It is said, for example, that hand-picked leaves subsequently produce a sweeter infusion.

Green tea is unfermented. After harvesting, it is heat-treated or steamed, which maintains the bright green colour of the leaves and preserves the precious substances inside.

Traditionally, China and Japan have been the specialists in its cultivation and subsequent processing. Other famous producers include, of course, India and Ceylon. Tea lovers are also often divided according to the preferences of the country from which their favourite drink comes.

Each variant of green tea has its own specific taste, aroma and preparation method, and it is up to you to find the right one. Due to its relatively high caffeine content, pregnant and breastfeeding women should be cautious with its consumption. Prior consultation with a medical practitioner is recommended for those suffering from kidney and liver problems.
